WCRB is Boston's classical music station, broadcasting at 99.5 FM and owned by the WGBH Educational Foundation. Its roots run deep: the station began on AM in Waltham in 1948, built its classical identity under Charles River Broadcasting, and became the first Boston station to broadcast in FM stereo in 1961. The classical format moved to 99.5 in 2006, and since 2009 WCRB has been listener-supported, carrying dozens of live Boston Symphony Orchestra broadcasts each season.
