Taranaki's fiercely independent alternative station, The Most FM broadcasts on 100.4 FM from New Plymouth under the charitable Taranaki FM Trust. It began in 1995 broadcasting just one month a year before going full-time in November 1997, and after a bureaucratic mishap cost it its licence in 2008, it fought back onto a full-power frequency that August. Around forty volunteer announcers a week deliver specialist shows across alternative, jazz, blues, reggae and world music, plus the Primo Breakfast Show — with advertising kept to roughly three minutes an hour.
