The Cheese is a low-power FM station from Lower Hutt, near Wellington, broadcasting 24 hours a day on 87.7 FM. It commenced on 1 July 2006, originally on 88.4 FM from Wainuiomata, and is owned by Grant Thoms and operated by Brandit Media. Its slogan, “Music For Generation-X!”, sums up the format: a mix of music from the 1980s, 1990s and recent hits, fully licensed with APRA and PPNZ. Few New Zealand LPFM stations have maintained such a consistent local identity for so long.
