NHK WORLD RADIO 5 is another numbered variant of NHK World Radio Japan, the overseas radio service of Japan's national broadcaster. Radio Japan's programmes — rolling news, current-affairs reporting and cultural features about Japan and Asia — go out on shortwave via the Yamata relay and online. This stream is one of the service's regional windows, bringing Tokyo's voice to listeners in its target area.
