KXLU 88.9 FM is the noncommercial voice of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, and one of American college radio's most storied stations. Its roots reach back to a 1946 campus radio workshop; it settled at 88.9 in 1968 and built a free-form reputation championing punk and local music, giving early airplay to Beck, Black Flag and Jane's Addiction. Long-running fixtures include the Latin-jazz institution Alma del Barrio, on air since 1973, and the demo-tape showcase Demolisten.
