KOOL 97 FM hit the Jamaican airwaves in November 2001, operated by Aeronautical Telecommunications Ltd (AEROTEL), and islandwide on 97.1 to 97.9 FM. Its retro and adult contemporary format leans on melodic, familiar music — around 45 per cent of it reggae — aimed at listeners 25 and over. A signature quirk: flight schedules for Jamaica’s airports are broadcast at the top of every hour, a legacy of its aviation licence roots.
