Broadcasting on 104.7 FM from Waikanae, Coast Access Radio has served the Kāpiti Coast and Horowhenua since a group of volunteers formed it in 1996, first going to air at Christmas 1997. One of the twelve Community Access Media Alliance stations, it is run by the Coast Access Radio Trust from studios in Mahara Place, Waikanae, with a recording hub in Levin. Its schedule is made by the community itself — programmes for women, youth, people with disabilities and minority groups, a live weekday breakfast show, and shows that have earned more than twenty New Zealand Radio Awards finalist placings.
