BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra is the BBC's digital overflow station for live sport, launched on 2 February 2002 as Radio 5 Live Sports Extra and renamed in 2022. Created because 5 Live could not fit every event into one schedule, it carries extra Premier League commentaries, Test Match Special cricket, Formula 1, tennis and other live coverage. It broadcasts only when sport is on, via DAB, digital TV and BBC Sounds in the UK.
