531pi has been bringing Pacific people together since 1993, when it launched as an independent Auckland station for first- and second-generation Pacific migrants. Now the flagship of the Pacific Media Network, run by the National Pacific Radio Trust, it broadcasts news, talkback, sport and Pacific music in English and ten Pacific languages, with community language programmes each evening for a different island nation. Long associated with its historic 531 AM frequency, the station reaches Auckland and beyond, and its hourly Pacific news service keeps listeners connected to both Aotearoa and their island homelands.
