WQHT, Hot 97, at 97.1 FM is New York's defining hip-hop station. Launched on the frequency in September 1988 as a rhythmic dance outlet, it pivoted to hip-hop and R&B by 1993 under the banner 'Where Hip Hop Lives,' helping power the East Coast revival. Its Summer Jam concert, running since 1994, is a genre institution, and shows like Ebro in the Morning and Funkmaster Flex's mix hours remain flagship listening.
