Few stations can claim a pirate past and a lightship for a home. The Seagull name first went out over the North Sea in July 1973, when the Caroline organisation used it for a night-time service of progressive music broadcast from the Mi Amigo. Today's Radio Seagull carries that spirit from Harlingen in the northern Netherlands, where it is associated with the red lightship Jenni Baynton, moored in the town's harbour. Broadcasting in English on 1602 kHz medium wave and online, it favours album rock and progressive tracks over chart repetition, true to its motto that there is more to music than hits.
