Botswana's first independent radio station, Yarona FM began broadcasting around the clock on 22 August 1999 and quickly became the voice of the country's urban youth. Based in Gaborone on 106.6 FM, it started out covering only the capital area before a national licence in 2007 took it to centres including Lobatse, Mahalapye, Serowe, Palapye, Selebi-Phikwe, Francistown and Maun. Its playlist leans on the freshest urban contemporary sounds, blended with talk and regular news bulletins aimed at listeners under thirty-five.
