WXYC, the student-run station of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, made history in November 1994 as the first radio station anywhere to broadcast its signal over the internet. The freeform spirit that powered that experiment survives: student DJs roam across indie rock, jazz, hip-hop, international sounds and outright obscurities, making 89.3 a beloved fixture of the Chapel Hill scene.
