Owned by Ohio State University and serving Columbus, WOSU 89.7 signed on in December 1949 and today brands itself simply as "89.7 NPR News." For nearly three decades, from 1980 to 2008, the station broadcast classical music; it then flipped to its current public radio news and talk format, carrying NPR's flagship magazines alongside BBC and statehouse coverage of Ohio politics. It remains the capital city's principal NPR news service, on air and streaming around the clock.
