Tampa's WMNF 88.5 is community radio in the original, door-to-door sense: volunteers raised the money to put Florida's first community radio station on the air on 14 September 1979, and listeners have sponsored it ever since — the call letters stand for Member-sponsored Non-commercial FM. Licensed to the Nathan B. Stubblefield Foundation, it remains defiantly eclectic and volunteer-programmed: music shows in dozens of genres sit beside local public-affairs and news programming you will not hear anywhere else in Tampa Bay.
