Student-run and proudly independent, WKNC 88.1 is North Carolina State University's radio station in Raleigh. NC State student radio dates to 1922, and WKNC reached FM on October 9, 1966; today it broadcasts at 25,000 watts — among the most powerful student stations in America — across the Research Triangle. Students hold every job from DJ to general manager. Weekdays lean indie rock, with hip-hop, electronic, metal and jazz filling evenings and weekends, plus HD subchannels online.
