WHYY 90.9 is Philadelphia's flagship NPR station, serving the Delaware Valley from studios on Independence Mall. It signed on December 14, 1954, as the city's first educational station — its call letters stand for 'Wider Horizons for You and Yours' — and became an NPR charter member in 1970, carrying the first broadcast of All Things Considered. Today it is a news and talk service, and the home of Fresh Air with Terry Gross.
