WFMT 98.7 has been Chicago's classical and fine-arts station since 13 December 1951, when Bernard and Rita Jacobs launched it; it settled on 98.7 in 1954 and is now owned by WTTW's parent. Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Metropolitan Opera broadcasts, Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin and the folk institution The Midnight Special anchor a schedule syndicated nationwide.
