WBAI 99.5 is New York City's listener-sponsored Pacifica station, broadcasting free-form radio from 99.5 FM since Pacifica took it over in 1960. Eclectic by design, its schedule jumps between public-affairs talk, jazz, world music, experimental programming and community voices, funded by listeners rather than advertisers. In a commercial dial, WBAI remains defiantly independent — one of American radio's most storied and unpredictable stations.
