The Current is Minnesota Public Radio's music service, heard on 89.3 KCMP, licensed to Northfield and covering the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro. MPR launched the format on January 24, 2005, after buying St. Olaf College's WCAL-FM, and built it into a nationally respected adult album alternative station. Mostly locally produced, it champions Minnesota artists alongside indie and legacy rock, with live in-studio performances a signature.
