St. Ita's Hospital Radio served the hospital and community of Portrane in north County Dublin for over four decades. It began broadcasting in December 1983 as a pirate and became the first station in Ireland to receive one of the new licences after the 1988 broadcasting legislation, later settling on low-power 89.5 FM. Run by volunteers, it mixed music, requests and local programming for patients, staff and neighbours. The FM service closed on 30 November 2024 after 41 years, with an online successor keeping the name alive.
