Vaporwaves is SomaFM's home for vaporwave, the internet-born genre built from slowed-down 1980s pop, smooth jazz and elevator music, chopped and looped into a hazy digital daydream. Streaming in AAC, the channel leans into the aesthetic's nostalgia for early web culture, mallsoft ambience and warped R&B samples. It is part of the San Francisco network Rusty Hodge founded in 2000 — listener-supported, commercial-free, and always willing to devote a channel to a microgenre.
