Sonic Universe is where SomaFM keeps its jazz — but jazz pushed outward. The channel specialises in avant-garde and transcultural jazz: nu-jazz, spiritual jazz, European improvisation and world-music hybrids that rarely surface on smooth-jazz stations. It belongs to the San Francisco network Rusty Hodge founded in 2000, supported entirely by listener donations and free of commercials. Expect adventurous programming that treats jazz as a living, border-crossing language rather than a museum piece.
