Folk Forward is SomaFM's channel for folk's present tense, from the San Francisco listener-supported service founded in 2000. Its brief, in the network's own framing, is indie folk and alt-folk with the occasional folk classic for grounding: acoustic songwriters, harmony-driven bands and roots-leaning indie acts rather than traditional balladry alone. This 128k MP3 listing carries a playlist that treats folk as a living, evolving genre instead of a museum piece.
