Solar Radio is London's long-running soul station, which began as a pirate on 4 November 1984 under founder Tony Monson — the name short for Sound of London's Alternative Radio. After its pirate years it returned legally via satellite in the late 1990s and now broadcasts soul, jazz-funk and house on DAB in London and online.
