Sleep Radio is a not-for-profit internet station from Te Aroha in the Waikato with one unusual ambition: it wants you to fall asleep. Founder John Watson launched it in 2014 after depression and insomnia led him to seek out relaxation music, only to be woken by ads and announcers elsewhere. Sleep Radio therefore carries no advertising, no station IDs and no voices at all, just uninterrupted downbeat ambient and new age music, screened track by track, streaming worldwide to listeners in dozens of countries.
