Sankofa Radio took to the Takoradi airwaves on 98.9 FM from Chapel Hill, beginning official test transmissions on 4 January 2021 before launching full programming the following month. Most of its output is in local Ghanaian languages, spanning social issues, sport, music, entertainment and educational shows, and it relays Mama Effe’s Obra programme from Nhyira FM on weekday afternoons — reported at launch as the only Western Region station to do so. Its Fante tagline translates as “this is ours also”.
