RTÉ lyric fm is Ireland's national classical and specialist music station, launched on 1 May 1999 with a first broadcast that opened, memorably, with birdsong. Based in Limerick, it replaced FM3 Classical Music and now broadcasts nationwide on FM frequencies between 95.2 and 99.6 MHz. Under the slogan 'Where Life Sounds Better', its repertoire ranges far beyond the concert hall — classical, jazz, world and traditional music, musicals and film scores all find a home on a station treasured by listeners who like their radio unhurried and curious.
