Few stations shaped modern British music like Rinse FM. Founded in September 1994 by Geeneus and Slimzee as an east London pirate, it gave early exposure to grime artists Dizzee Rascal and Wiley and to dubstep DJs such as Skream and Kode9. Awarded a community licence in 2010, it began legal broadcasts on 106.8 FM in February 2011, and now also runs on DAB while championing garage, jungle, house and UK underground sounds.
