Radio Hauraki is NZME's rock network, heard right across New Zealand. The station first went to air in 1966 from a ship anchored in international waters in the Hauraki Gulf — a pirate operation mounted to break the government monopoly on radio — and became a legal land-based broadcaster in 1970. Decades on, the format centres on rock: classic anthems and progressive favourites alongside alternative rock from more recent decades. Based in Auckland's Graham Street studios alongside its NZME sister stations, Hauraki mixes its music with comedy-driven shows and sport, and streams nationally on iHeartRadio.
