Broadcasting from Massey University's Manawatū campus in Palmerston North, Radio Control 99.4FM is the city's student station and a member of the Student Radio Network. It traces its roots to 1981, when it began as Radio Massey — its predecessor Masskeradio had been New Zealand's first commercial student radio operation. The station champions alternative and local music, with a broadcasting policy committing at least 40 percent of its playlist to New Zealand artists, and it regularly partners with Palmerston North venue The Stomach to record live sets. Volunteer student presenters fill the schedule with specialist shows you won't hear on commercial radio.
