Few stations carry a story like Radio Caroline. Founded by Ronan O'Rahilly, it began broadcasting from a ship in international waters on 27 March 1964, defying the BBC's monopoly to play pop music all day. Now fully licensed, it broadcasts on 648 AM from Orford Ness in Suffolk, on DAB in several cities and online, playing album-oriented rock from the 1960s onwards and still run in the spirit of its pirate past.
