Newstalk ZB is NZME’s nationwide news and talkback network, tracing its history to Auckland station 1ZB, first broadcasting in 1926 on what became 1080 AM. In 1987 it relaunched in its current talk format, later adding 89.4 FM in Auckland in 1993. Today it operates one of New Zealand’s largest news operations, with more than 50 newsreaders, reporters and editors. Breakfast host Mike Hosking and other high-profile presenters front a schedule of news, interviews and talkback heard in almost every market.
