NEAR FM — North East Access Radio — is the community station for Dublin's north-east, broadcasting on 90.3 FM from the Northside Civic Centre in Coolock. First on air in August 1995, originally on 101.6 FM, it is run by the not-for-profit Near Media Co-operative and was a founding member of CRAOL, the Community Radio Forum of Ireland. Its open-access schedule gives local groups, musicians and campaigners airtime for specialist music, talk, Irish-language and multicultural programmes, providing an alternative voice for communities from Raheny to Ballymun that mainstream media rarely reaches.
