Midwest Radio is the local station for County Mayo, broadcasting from Ballyhaunis mainly on 96.1 FM, with additional frequencies including 95.4 for Westport and 97.1 serving Achill and Belmullet. Owned by County Mayo Radio Ltd, it officially launched on 24 July 1989, though founder Paul Claffey had earlier run pirate incarnations in 1978 and 1985–88. Serving Mayo with overspill into Sligo, Roscommon and Galway, it has grown into one of Ireland's most popular local stations, its identity built on community connection and a deep well of Irish and country music.
