Pirate Cat Radio has one of American radio's great outlaw stories: Daniel Roberts started it unlicensed as a teenager in Los Gatos, later broadcasting openly from a Mission District café in San Francisco until FCC enforcement took it off FM in 2009. Reborn legally as low-power FM, it now airs on KPCR-LP in Los Gatos and on 101.9 in Santa Cruz, with an eclectic community format of local music and talk.
