KJazz 88.1 HD2 is the digital sister of KKJZ in Long Beach, the Los Angeles station that bills itself as America's number one full-time jazz and blues outlet. KKJZ itself first aired in 1950 as KLON; its license is held by the California State University, Long Beach Research Foundation and it is operated by Global Jazz, Inc. The HD2 channel is devoted to bebop — the fast, virtuosic sound of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and the hard bop that followed.
