Seattle's KEXP 90.3 is one of the most influential music-discovery stations in America. It began in 1972 as KCMU, the student-run station of the University of Washington, renamed itself KEXP in 2001 and is now operated by the nonprofit Friends of KEXP from studios at Seattle Center. DJ-curated shows champion indie and alternative rock alongside hip-hop, punk, world and Latin music, while its famous in-studio live sessions have made the station a global destination online.
