KEXP 90.3 FM is Seattle's listener-powered indie institution, run by the nonprofit Friends of KEXP in affiliation with the University of Washington. It began in 1972 as 10-watt student station KCMU, was the first station anywhere to play Nirvana, and adopted the KEXP name in 2001. DJ-curated variety mixes, genre shows and its famous in-studio live sessions make it a global music-discovery hub.
