KCRW, broadcasting on 89.9 FM from Santa Monica College, is NPR's flagship station for Southern California. Founded in 1945 as the College Radio Workshop to train returning servicemen, it was transformed from 1977 by Ruth Seymour into a powerhouse mixing NPR news with adventurous music. Its signature show, Morning Becomes Eclectic, has showcased live performances and broken new artists to Los Angeles — and, via streaming, the world — for decades.
