KALW 91.7 is San Francisco's original FM station: it began broadcasting on September 1, 1941, and its license is still held by the San Francisco Unified School District. An NPR affiliate rooted in the Bay Area, it mixes national news with local productions such as the call-in show Your Call and the news magazine Crosscurrents, plus eclectic music programming — public radio with a distinctly San Franciscan, community-taught character.
