Heads FM is one of New Zealand's last truly independent stations: on 106.4 FM at Mangawhai, run by veteran broadcaster Mark Perry, a former Radio Hauraki host, and his wife Maureen from Te Ārai. Broadcasting locally since 2004 — on a full licence from around 2009 — it covers Mangawhai and the Bream Bay coast with classic hits from the 60s through the 90s, local news bulletins, and quirks like the vintage Chickenman serial. Solar backup power and a sister station, The Wireless on 90.4, complete the proudly local operation.
