Gibraltar's public service voice since long before the Rock had a second station, Radio Gibraltar began regular broadcasting in 1958 and became part of the Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation when GBC was formed by merger in 1963. Heard on 91.3 FM across the town area and 92.6 FM in the South District, it runs around the clock with local news, discussion, music and sport in English and Spanish. During the years when Spain closed the land frontier, its family-message programmes made it a lifeline between divided households on both sides of the border.
