East Village Radio broadcasts from a storefront studio at 21 First Avenue in Manhattan, a glass box on the sidewalk that has been part of the neighborhood since 2003. Founded by restaurateur Frank Prisinzano, it began as a pirate station on 88.1 FM, went online after an FCC cease-and-desist, and built an eclectic roster of more than sixty DJs. The station shut down in 2014, returned and closed again, then relaunched in July 2024 — still fiercely independent.
