Cork's 96FM is one of Ireland's longest-running local stations, broadcasting to Cork city and county on frequencies between 95.6 and 96.8 FM. It launched at midday on 10 August 1989 as Radio South — only the third licensed commercial station to come on air in the country — before relaunching as 96FM in July 1990. From Broadcasting House on St Patrick's Place, it delivers a music-led mix of hits and memories, local news, sport and talk, and is famous for its outspoken mid-morning phone-in tradition. It operates as a dual franchise with sister station C103 under Onic, News UK's Irish radio group.
