Compass FM is North Canterbury’s not-for-profit community station, broadcasting on 104.9 FM from a transmitter atop Mount Grey and on 103.7 FM repeaters for Hanmer Springs and Cheviot. It began full-time broadcasting in June 2011 from studios in Rangiora, funded by advertising and sponsorship rather than NZ On Air, with the slogan “The Voices of North Canterbury”. Covering the Waimakariri, Hurunui and Selwyn districts and reaching into greater Christchurch, it mixes local news, talk and music made by and for Cantabrians north of the Waimakariri River.
