Community Radio Youghal — known on air as CRY104FM — is the volunteer-run community station for Youghal and the surrounding areas of east Cork and west Waterford, broadcasting on 104 FM. Its roots are remarkable: it began as a pirate station in 1979, broadcasting for almost a decade before closing at the end of 1988, and returned as one of Ireland's first licensed community radio stations in 1995. As a not-for-profit service, CRY gives local people a voice with programmes made by and for the community, from local news and sport to specialist music and talk, and it also streams online to former residents worldwide.
