CityFM89 went on air on 2 July 2004 as the radio venture of the Dawn Media Group, broadcasting on 89 MHz from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Faisalabad. Broadcasting almost entirely in English, it built its identity around contemporary music and a youthful, urban listenership at a time when tapes and CDs were still the usual in-car entertainment. It remains one of Pakistan's best-known English-language FM networks.
