Chanco Community Radio, based in Zomba, is owned and run by the University of Malawi and went on air on 6 July 2013. Billing itself as Malawi’s first environmental radio station, it broadcasts on 107.6 FM to the Lake Chilwa Basin — Zomba, Machinga, Phalombe, Chiradzulu, Mangochi and Mulanje — with programmes on climate change, health and education such as Zaumoyo, while also giving University of Malawi students practical training in radio journalism.
