ChaiFM is South Africa’s Jewish community radio station, broadcasting to greater Johannesburg on 101.9 FM since 9 December 2008. Its name comes from “chai”, the Hebrew word for life, symbolised by the number 18. Uniquely, it broadcasts 24 hours a day but only six days a week, falling silent from Friday evening to Saturday night for Shabbat, and its schedule blends Jewish talk, culture, news and music.
